Night in Bad Gastein is a series of five acrylic works, that excavates the decadent melancholia of the paradoxical Alpine resort where bourgeois opulence has collapsed into sublime disrepair. Rooted in the artist’s summer sojourn of the pandemic 2020 with his partner, the paintings metabolize strolls through spectral corners into a visual palimpsest where architecture, history, nature, and imagination collide with both menace and play.
