In Furrious: Underwater, the artists Otto Krause and Milan Loviška delve into the symbolic and literal depths of our relationship with water through their artistic processes of “furrification” and “plushification.” Set against the surreal backdrop of the ocean floor, the work reimagines scuba diving as a speculative performance practice, staging a plushophilic descent into one of the last truly offline realms of the modern world. This performance for camera embraces a camp, tactile aesthetic—childlike, hybrid, and deliberately excessive—while raising questions about our estranged relationship with the aquatic world. The underwater scenes, characterised by their poetic pacing, soft visual layering, and sound design that foregrounds the immersive acoustics of underwater life—bubbles, currents, muffled gestures—serve as mediated rituals of interspecies contact, shaped by movements of buoyancy, suspension, and unspoken dialogue.
